L-R: The Richard Myles Johnson/CUNA Mutual Golf Tournament’s winning group was from Inland Valley Federal Credit Union in Fontana, Calif.: COO Tracy Arroyo, CEO Chuck Papenfus, Craig Nelson of CU Plan, and Inland Valley FCU board member Ed Greenwald.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.–Nearly $60,000 was raised by the Richard Myles Johnson (RMJ) Foundation/CUNA Mutual Golf Tournament at the Newport Beach Country Club. The funds will go toward the state foundation for credit unions in California and Nevada.

The event drew 144 players and 21 sponsors. CUNA Mutual served as title sponsor.

“It was great to have a sold-out event this year. And the money raised will be used to fund the Foundation’s Bite of Reality, a fun, interactive youth financial education program which has reached nearly 11,000 teens in California and Nevada since its inception in 2012; more than 5,000 so far in 2015,” said RMJ Executive Director Tena Lozano.

The tournament’s winning group was from Inland Valley Federal Credit Union in Fontana, Calif.: Chuck Papenfus (CEO), Tracy Arroyo (COO), Ed Greenwald (board member), and Craig Nelson (CU Plan). The foursome from Santa Ana, Calif.-based SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union—CEO Bill Cheney, Jim Hossfeld, Dr. Clint Harwick (Saddleback Valley Unified School District Superintendent), and Terry Walker (Irvine Unified School District Superintendent)—came in second. The foursome from San Diego-based USE Credit Union (Matt Adams, Jim Froman, Josh Lawrence, and Ken Kramer) came in third place.

In addition to CUNA Mutual, other major sponsors were CU Direct, CO-OP Financial Services, and SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. Champion sponsors were Cabrillo Credit Union; Horsetail Technologies; Kinecta Federal Credit Union; Educational Employees Credit Union; Wright, Finlay & Zak, LLP; Stanley Convergent Security Solutions; Self-Help Federal Credit Union; Wescom Credit Union, and California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues.

Credit Union, Inland Valley Federal Credit Union, Interstate National Corporation, Find A Reverse Mortgage, POPA Federal Credit Union, Sierra Central Credit Union, State National Companies, USE Credit Union, and Xceed Financial Credit Union.

Founded in 1958, the RMJ Foundation is dedicated to supporting credit union efforts in spreading the financial literacy message to young people. It is funded through donations from credit unions, league chapters, corporations providing credit union services, and individuals.
