DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Credit Union League will kick of its 85th annual convention today at, fittingly, the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center here.
More than 500 credit union CEOs, directors, executive staff, guests and exhibitors are expected to attend.
Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds will welcome Iowa Credit Union Convention attendees this evening following a special Habitat for Humanity home build during the day. Many of the volunteers are attending the Convention thanks to a special Crash the Convention program that allows young credit union professionals an opportunity to attend Convention for free. The volunteers will be working on a Habitat home purchased by a family with assistance from the Iowa Credit Union Foundation's Individual Development Account matched savings program, which helps low-income Iowans purchase a wealth-building asset.
Andy Janning, a nationally recognized expert in organizational development, will open the convention on Thursday to share lessons on how to bring out the best in others and focus on what’s really important inside and outside the credit union world.
Michael Kutcher, twin brother of the famous actor and Iowa native, Ashton, will speak on Friday, Sept. 18, about his journey wrought with the stigma and limitations of having cerebral palsy and overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds.
In addition, the Iowa Credit Union League’s Iowa Innovation Group participants will kick off Friday’s opening keynote session by sharing their new ideas and prototypes that could be implemented for the benefit of Iowa credit unions.
