STOCKTON, Calif.–A 45-year-old man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred outside of a branch of Golden 1 Credit Union here in 2022.
According to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, Laonard Alexander was convicted of killing 22-year-old Tyrique Harris on Aug. 11, 2022 and was also found guilty of a firearm enhancement, which significantly increases his potential sentence.
“The day of the shooting, the Stockton Police Department was dispatched to the Golden 1 Credit Union on Pacific Avenue across the street from San Joaquin Delta College on a report of a person shot,” Stocktonia.com reported. “At the scene, Harris was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and face…He died from his injuries at the scene.”
According to the District Attorney’s Office, video surveillance from the bank showed that Alexander and Harris had a brief physical altercation in the parking lot prior to the shooting. Following the altercation, Harris retreated to the bank’s side, while Alexander entered the bank, completed a transaction, and then drove away, Stoctonia.com reported.
Drove Past Victim Twice
“However, Alexander returned, drove past the victim twice before parking his vehicle behind the bank,” the report added. “He then approached Harris from behind and shot him six times before fleeing the scene, prosecutors said.”
The District Attorney’s Office said Alexander is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 21 and could face 50 years to life in prison.
