CHESTERFIELD, Mo.–First Community Credit Union has given its mascot, Louie LoanStar, a makeover.
The credit union said Loui has gone from being a bulky, slightly awkward red star to a leaner, more animated and agile Louie.
“He’s always had a sweet face with those big wide eyes and huge smile,” Laura Alfeldt, SVP-communications/PR said in a statement. “I have seen him around kids for years and they are immediately drawn to him with his happy expression. But the previous costume, with a star-shaped body, really limited his mobility.”
The credit union, which said the costume was designed by Street Characters, a Calgary-based mascot company with clients that include the NHL, NFL, and MLB, reported it worked on the project for more than a year to create a new design that “kept the best of Louie’s features in a star-shared head and a full bodysuit.”
His hockey-inspired clothing bears the number 90 in celebration of First Community’s 90th year in business.
Allows for ‘Higher Performance’
“We do a lot with kids and families,” President and CEO Glenn D. Barks said in a statement. “We are also a corporate partner with the St. Louis Blues. I wanted a suit that allows for higher performance. Something Louie could wear anywhere and really engage with kids. We’re planning to have him on the ice at the Blues games this season. Let’s see if he can skate like the Blues!”
First Community said it plans to keep the mascot busy this fall with appearances at Blues games and grand opening celebrations as they open four offices over the next six months.
