Member Feedback Leads Alliant To ATM Fee Rebates

CHICAGO—Alliant Credit Union has introduced an ATM Rebates program that refunds to members fees paid on foreign ATMs. The $8-billion Alliant will reimburse member checking account holders up to $20 per month in ATM fees.

During a regular survey of its membership, Alliant noticed an uptick in comments about ATM fees, explained David Mooney, president and CEO. “We assigned an internal cross-functional team to address the matter and ended up not just satisfying our members, but delighting them when we introduced our new ATM Rebate benefit.”

Alliant had already been offering its members access to 80,000 surcharge-free ATMs. The new ATM rebate program for checking accountholders is an additional benefit, which has prompted members and prospective members to notice, according to Mooney, who said there has been an outpouring of positive comments on Alliant’s Facebook and Twitter channels and on financial blogs.

“We provide employee financial benefits and wellness programs primarily to large regional and national employers; their employees are upwardly mobile and geographically dispersed and as such are convenience and value driven,” said Mooney. “By adding reimbursement for out-of-network ATM use, we give employees at these companies greater convenience and access to their funds, plus a substantial savings in fees – up to $240 per year.”
