Mid-Atlantic Corporate, Penn. CUs Intro Children’s Book On Fin Lit

MIDDLETOWN, Penn.– Mid-Atlantic Corporate and several central Pennsylvania credit unions have partnered to publish a new book that teaches children about financial literacy through the eyes of the world’s most famous square dog, Boxcar Indy.

A leadership book, “Boxcar Indy Goes to Doggy World” chronicles Boxcar Indy’s journey to save enough money to take his family to Doggy World. Through hard work and help from his credit union, Boxcar Indy learns how to handle money responsibly.

Mid-Atlantic Corporate and the credit unions joined with the author of the Boxcar Indy books, Tracey C. Jones, to create the newest installment.

“Our goal with ‘Boxcar Indy Goes to Doggy World’ is to show kids that saving money and investing is achievable,” said Jay Murray, president and CEO of Mid-Atlantic Corporate. “By providing financial literacy tools like this one, credit unions can help children – our future members – learn to manage their finances, but in a fun way.”

On April 1, 2016, AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union, Belco Community Credit Union, Members 1st Federal Credit Union and Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union will debut “Boxcar Indy Goes to Doggy World” in their branches. The credit unions will also hold community events, with appearances by Boxcar Indy, throughout the next few months to promote the book.

“Working with the credit unions has been a great experience,” said Jones, also president of Tremendous Leadership. “With their support, we were able to take the idea of a financial literacy book and turn it into something that kids will really benefit from and enjoy.”
