WASHINGTON—In advance of today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on patent reform, NAFCU is making the committee aware of the negative impact patent demand letters are having on CUs and that work needs to be done.
In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ranking Member Patrick Leahy (D-VT), NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler commends the bill (S. 1137) as an important first step, but emphasizes that more must be accomplished.
"We believe further work must be done to enhance the language to curb deceptive demand letters, as well as work to ensure that meaningful opportunities exist for all sectors to challenge low quality patents and have them reviewed by experts at the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) for validity," Thaler said in the letter.
