NCUA Signals It May Stop Posting Board Meeting Dates Next Year

WASHINGTON—NCUA may stop publicly posting board meeting dates next year, the agency confirmed to CUToday.info, saying the practice has created “a false expectation that a meeting will occur” when some dates are only meant as courtesy placeholders.

The move comes after media scrutiny—including reporting by CUToday.info—highlighted a reduced NCUA board calendar and multiple canceled sessions this year. The agency has already marked its Nov. 20 open board meeting as “withdrawn” and its Dec. 18 session as “tentative” on its public schedule.

Earlier this year, Democratic board members Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka were removed by the Trump administration, leaving Chairman Kyle Hauptman as the lone NCUA board member. The agency has cited historical precedent allowing a single member to operate as a quorum.

As CUToday.info has extensively reported, the removals are now entangled in litigation. A federal judge ruled in July that Harper and Otsuka were unlawfully removed, though an appeals court stay remains in place, leaving the future makeup of the board unresolved as 2026 approaches.

In an emailed statement to CUToday.info, an NCUA spokesperson stressed the decision to stop publishing meeting dates is unrelated to the legal dispute.

“I just want to assure you that the scheduling has nothing to do with the ongoing litigation,” the spokesperson said. “Moving forward next year, we are likely to no longer publish board meeting dates on the website. It creates a false expectation that a meeting will occur when it’s meant to be a courtesy scheduling heads up.”
