Nearly 20 Speakers Confirmed As Presenters At NASCUS Conference

ARLINGTON, Va. – Nearly 20 speakers covering a wide range of regulatory, technological, legislative and legal topics in nine hours of general sessions, seven issues briefings and dialogs, and six separate breakout sessions are now on the agenda for the 2015 NASCUS State System Summit, Oct. 21-23 in New Orleans.

The 2015 NASCUS Summit will include credit union regulators from every state, as well as the leaders of numerous state-chartered credit unions.

The three-day conference will feature educational sessions, dialogue between state regulators and credit unions, and general sessions focusing on current issues and developments of interest to the entire state system, NASCUS said.

“Our Summit is unique in bringing together credit union regulators and practitioners for open dialogue and mutual exchange,” said Lucy Ito, NASCUS president and CEO. “This year is our 50th Anniversary edition, and we’ve developed a program aimed at helping the state system prepare for the next half century, addressing the key issues across the spectrum of interests to the state credit union system, including technology, legislation and developments in the marketplace.”

Among the key speakers at the 2015 NASCUS Summit:

  • NCUA Vice Chairman Rick Metsger, who will facilitate a panel on credit union field of membership.
  •  Cyber security professional James Risler of Cisco Systems, who will address the latest challenges and developments related to network security.
  • An overview of a new biometrics systems for securing member verification from Mike Groat and Bob Long of Daon.
  • CFPB expert and Attorney Allyson B. Baker of Venable LLP, who will discuss recent trends with the consumer agency and what they mean for credit unions and financial institutions at large.
  • Payday lending analyst Nick Bourke of the Pew Charitable Trusts, who will discuss the CFPB payday lending framework and what it means for credit unions and other depositories, as well as state regulators.
  • Economist Adam Goldin of Moody’s Analytics, who will give an overview of the economy, including a glimpse at where it may be going.
  • Filene Research Institute’s Cynthia Campbell, who will detail the top five innovations for credit unions in 2015 identified by the nation’s top think tank for credit unions.
