DENVER—Several credit unions have named new CEOs.

Todd Marksberry has been named CEO of Public Service Credit Union. Marksberry succeeds Dave Maus, who is preparing to retire after 36 years. The $1.6-billion PSCU has 167,000 members. Marksberry will take over as CEO in June. He was most recently EVP/COO at $4.6-billion Delta Community CU, Atlanta, and has also held a position with SavvyMoney, San Francisco

In Houston, the $48-million Houston Metropolitan FCU has named Malcolm René its new CEO.

Effective Monday, June 1, René replaces Barbara Stephens, who is retiring after 23 years as the credit union's president and CEO.

"Barbara has provided a tremendous service to our credit union by delivering outstanding leadership for more than two decades," Houston Metropolitan Board Chairman Eric Dargan told the Cornerstone CU League." She will be missed, but we are excited for her as she opens a new chapter in her life."

René comes to Houston Metropolitan FCU from the $85-million United Community Credit Union in Galena Park, Texas, where he served as executive vice president/chief financial officer. René managed all of the strategic activities of the credit union, including lending, investments, accounting, marketing, business development, and human resources.

In Indianapolis, the $54-million Harvester Financial CU has tapped Bryan Fluke as its new CEO.

Fluke, previously manager of expansion and risk operations at local Financial Center First CU, officially starts his new role April 7.

With 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, 20-plus years of being an active duty Army officer, Fluke brings a diverse background to the credit union, Harvester Financial said in a statement.

“Bryan has spent the last 13 years at Financial Center First Credit Union and is ready to use his skills to better our credit union. He has our members’ best interest in mind along with a clear vision for ensuring financial stability and member satisfaction. He also has a strong background in marketing which will prove to be a very beneficial attribute at HFCU,” the CU stated.

Meanwhile, in St. Joseph Mich., Gary Easterling, CEO of the $1.8-billion United FCU, announced he will retire late this year.

J.B. Hoyt, the chairman of the credit union’s board of directors, also plans to retire, setting June 30 as the date.

Easterling joined United as president and CEO in 2007 and will remain at the helm until his successor has been identified, the CU told the South Bend Tribune, which reported that Easterling told the credit union’s board about his retirement plans almost a year ago and has been working with them on a planning calendar.

“This announcement is part of that plan and clears the way for us to move ahead with a selection process that includes current employees of UFCU as well as external candidates,” Mike Hildebrand, the credit union’s vice chairman, told the newspaper.
