ALBUQUERQUE, N.M—A bill has been dropped in the New Mexico legislature that would require businesses to notify customers of data breaches when their credit information is stolen.
New Mexico is one of three states, along with Alabama and South Dakota, without such a law. Proposed by Rep. Bill Rehm (R), the bill has the support of the Credit Union Association of New Mexico. Paul Stull, CEO of the CUANM, told local media there have been plenty of data breaches in New Mexico, but they have gone unreported as the result of no requirement that the breaches be disclosed.
