ARLINGTON, Va. – New sessions have been announced as part of the NASCUS/CUNA Cybersecurity Symposium scheduled for Aug. 1-2 in Chicago, including one on six things you can do right now to improve your information security.
According to NASCUS, the two-day event, held at the Westin Chicago River North Hotel, picks up where the first two popular annual programs (in 2014 and 2015) left off, with an emphasis on cutting-edge techniques, best practices and procedures that protect credit union organizations from the latest threats. The 2016 program includes more than 13 hours of educational presentations, discussions, demonstrations and panel/group discussions led by cybersecurity experts from across the nation.
The “six things” session will offer a half dozen (and likely more) techniques and tips to fine tune credit union information security programs, and is built for both credit union practitioners and examiners alike.
Other top sessions at the Aug. 1-2 program – which is sponsored in partnership between NASCUS and CUNA – include:
- Understanding the laws protecting members’ information
- Choosing the right cybersecurity risk assessment tool
- Cybersecurity, anti-money laundering, and identity theft red flags
- Rightsizing the cybersecurity budget
- Is it safe? Using the cloud
Leading the program later this year will be Tom Schauer of CliftonLarsonAllen in Seattle (formerly CEO of TrustCC). Practicing IT security, audit and compliance since 1986, NASCUS noted that Schauer started his career as a security analyst and BCP coordinator at a $3.5-billion regional bank. He later led Deloitte's West Coast IT audit and security assessment team, performing technology audits for both financial institutions, manufacturers and others, including Washington Mutual, Bank of America, American Express, Boeing, Starbucks and other Fortune 500 organizations. Using “true breach simulation techniques" his firm of TrustCC hacked into and obtained the highest level of access at about 65% of the banks and credit unions tested and nearly 100% of organizations from other industries. In September, 2015 TrustCC merged with CliftonLarsonAllen.
Registration , at www.nascus.org/events/cyber-2016.cfm, is $895 for NASCUS- and CUNA-member organizations; registration for non-NASCUS/CUNA members is $1,095.
