WASHINGTON—The number of credit unions signed up for CUNA’s new Member Appreciation Program (MAP) is now 65, according to Senior Vice President of Political Affairs Richard Gose.
The program was formally introduced to credit unions during last week’s Governmental Affairs Conference, after being piloted by two CUs: University FCU in Austin, Texas and CommunityAmerica CU in Kansas City. Twenty-four CUs signed on in 2014 as the pilot was wrapping up, said Gose, and now 40 more have joined as a result of GAC, he added.
The Member Appreciation Program is designed to raise CU member awareness of what credit unions are and the challenges they face prior to any sort of crises or request from their CU in which member engagement is needed, according to CUNA.
“The goal here is to engage members and educate people thoroughly on what credit unions are and their issues, so they can engage with elected officials on a more educated basis,” said Gose. “Those who feel the power of membership are 22% more likely to activate than those who feel the credit union is just another financial institution.”
