ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Nusenda Credit Union said it is joining with New Mexico Gov. Susan Martinez on an effort to increase financial literacy in the state.
Nusenda already offers a variety of fin lit initiatives and money management seminars, but the credit union said the expanded effort relates to what the governor has proclaimed as “New Mexico Money Management Week.”
"This is a longstanding focus of the credit union — financial literacy is key to having successful financial management,” Nusenda CU SVP-Strategic Marketing and Development Anneliese Elrod told local media. “As we have broadened our focus, we had the opportunity to talk. This particular week was planned earlier this summer. We're hoping for full houses at all of the workshops.”
The credit union said the goal is not to just educate consumers, but local business owners about the importance of financial literacy, as well.
New Mexico had the highest rate of student loan defaults in the country in 2014 at more than 20%
