Nussle, Mica To Discuss ‘Hollywood-ization’ Of Congress

Jim Nussle, CUNA

WASHINGTON—Current CUNA CEO Jim Nussle and former CUNA CEO Dan Mica, both former members of Congress, will be participating in a panel discussion here on the “Hollywood-ization” of Congress and how misperceptions can affect advocacy efforts.

Hosted by the Congressional Management Foundation and produced by the Beekeeper Group, which is hosting the event at its offices, organizers say the goal is to speak to how television shows such as Alpha House and House of Cards influence constituents’ attitudes and “in some cases warp their understanding of how things work in D.C.”

“The misimpressions left by fictional accounts of Capitol Hill don’t only hurt Congress’ image with the American public, they create obstacles to grassroots organizers seeking to motivate their supporters to take action,” organizers said.

Appearing with Nussle and Mica will be several members of the media and a college professor.
