BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich.–Lake Trust Credit Union has opened its new headquarters here with a contemporary internal design.
No employee has their own office and workers are being encouraged to work together in open spaces in the 100,000-square-foot building.
The new design is meant to be “democratic,” where everyone from senior executives to entry-level employees work together, President and CEO David Snodgrass told LivingstonDaily.com. “You wouldn’t think it was a financial institution; you would think it was Google or Facebook or some tech company,” he was quoted as saying.
According to Snodgrass, Lake Trust’s leadership team works “in the geographic center of the building, and not in a corner office. You’re expected to be out and visible and part of the team,” according to LivingstonDaily.com. He added that the new headquarters is designed to “appeal to future generations” of employees. “You don’t have to look like a bank that operated a hundred years ago.”
Lake Trust CU’s new offices consolidate employees who had been working in three different locations in Brighton, Plymouth and Lansing, Mich.
The new building, designed by SmithGroup, also includes a fitness center, an on-site restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and takeout dinner, and a multi-purpose room open to the community. Currently between 200 and 225 employees work in the building, but it can accommodate up to 250.
The $1.6-billion Lake Trust CU has 167,354 members.
