Detroit, Mich. –One Detroit Credit Union (1DCU) has named a new president and CEO to succeed the retiring Hank Hubbard.
The $64.3-million One Detroit has selected Portia Powell to lead the organization effective in January 2025. Powell, who has more than two decades of experience in services, will be the first first woman and first African American to lead the credit union in its 90-year history.
Powell is currently chief experience officer with One Detroit, having joined the credit union in 2023. She has previously held positions with Huntington National Bank, Chemical Bank and TCF Bank.
‘Driving Inclusion’
The credit union said Powell’s track record of “driving financial inclusion initiatives and fostering strong community partnerships will be instrumental in her role as CEO.”
“It's an honor to lead an institution that has been such a vital part of Detroit’s fabric,” Powell said in a statement. “I am committed to building on One Detroit's strong foundation while innovating to meet the needs of our members in a rapidly changing financial landscape. Together, we will continue to uplift and empower our community, ensuring that everyone has access to the tools they need for financial success.”
Three Decades at CU
Hubbard will retire at year-end after 34 years leading One Detroit. He will then transition into a consulting role.

In a statement, the credit union added, “Hubbard’s retirement marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to influence One Detroit Credit Union’s path forward. His leadership has been instrumental in cementing the credit union’s reputation as a leader in financial empowerment and community support.”
