AGOURA HILLS, Calif.–One of the most decorated and award-winning executives in credit union marketing has set up his own firm with an objective of helping small and midsize credit unions to drive greater loan and membership growth.
Roy MacKinnon, who became known to many for his work while at First Entertainment Credit Union in Hollywood, Calif., has left to create MacKinnon Marketing and Branding, a marketing management firm. The company will provide marketing management of promotions and the overall marketing function, marketing/marketplace audits and analysis, sales and service culture programs, name and charter change management, as well as other services to credit unions.
MacKinnon is bringing to the new firm expertise demonstrated during a 25-year career at First Entertainment where he was a key contributor to that credit union’s whopping 1,543% growth in assets during his tenure, when FECU grew from $72 million in assets to $1.2 billion.
He is widely recognized as having been responsible for driving the growth, brand and voice of the well-known credit union.
According to MacKinnon, unlike most brick-and-mortar agencies, MacKinnon Marketing and Branding brings real world credit union experience and understanding of the operational, regulatory and growth issues faced by small to midsize credit unions.
Typically, noted MacKinnon, these credit unions cannot afford the in-house marketing expertise needed in today’s highly competitive financial services market in order to drive growth.
MacKinnon began his credit union career in 1990 upon joining First Entertainment. In addition to marketing and branding, during his tenure he directly managed or supervised numerous areas including branch operations, a specialized high net-worth member department, consumer lending, asset liquidation and SEG business development.
MacKinnon is one of the most awarded marketers in credit union history having been honored more than 230 times nationally. He was a Charter Member of the CUNA Marketing Business Development Council, a member of the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES), as well as a former member of the Marketing Association for Credit Unions (MAC). He earned a BA in journalism from Pepperdine University and is a Stanford University Executive Development graduate. In 2006, he completed the three-year CUES CEO Institute, earning the CUES CCE designation.
