DULUTH, Ga.—The $280-milliono Platinum FCU has disclosed a data breach stemming from unauthorized access to an employee email account, according to Claim Depot.
The credit union said it detected suspicious activity on March 27, 2025, and later confirmed that names, Social Security numbers, and financial account information were exposed, Claim Depot said.
A review completed on Sept. 17 determined the scope of the breach, and notification letters were mailed to affected members beginning Sept. 24. The incident was also reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office on Sept. 30. The total number of individuals impacted has not been released but could reach into the thousands, Claim Depot said.
In response, Platinum FCU secured the compromised account and brought in a third-party forensic firm to investigate. The credit union is also offering free Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity protection services to those affected, alongside required federal and state disclosures, Claim Depot added.
