TOPEKA, Kan.–Quest Credit Union here has reached an agreement with the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Commission to donate $180,000 over the next six years for improvements to the 106-acre Skyline Park. The park is the site of Burnett’s Mound, the highest point in Topeka.
The improvements include building a trailhead and a designated parking area, as well as erecting signs along the park’s three recently created trails and a fourth that is being put in place. A “covered picnic area/shelter” is to be built in 2020.
“We believe it is a beautiful part of the county and it’s not had the opportunity to showcase that in recent years, and we look forward to that,” QCU President Greg Winkler told county commissioners.
As part of its donation, Quest would receive name and logo recognition for all of the improvements. As part of the funds $90,000 will go to an endowment fund created to ensure money is available for future maintenance and improvements.
