COLUMBIA, S.C.–Richland Northeast High School here now has a debit card of its own.
Issued by SAFE FCU here, the cardface was designed by students, teachers, and others.
The card was unveiled at a SAFE branch inside the high school. The card design shows a view of the school, the school’s Cavaliers logo, and the SAFE logo.
SAFE trains students as tellers who work in the branch two days each week. It is part of a partnership that SAFE and Richland Northeast established in 2014.
“Credit union branches in schools aren’t uncommon, but not many offer their own student designed debit card,” said Toby Hayes, vice president of marketing for SAFE Federal Credit Union. “We have enjoyed working with Richland Northeast to make this card available to anyone who is a fan of the Cavaliers.”
Aggie Smith, manager of SAFE’s nearby Sandhill Station Branch, oversees the school branch, working with the students.
"We are dedicated to educating the students and serving the community. So we appreciate the opportunity to have a branch here, where we can help young people learn about banking and the various accounts and services offered at financial institutions,” said Susan Allison, SAFE vice president of member experience.
