RALEIGH, N.C.—The $29-billion State Employees’ CU is looking to spend $1.5 million for naming rights to an outdoor plaza in the heart of Asheville, N.C.
If the deal is approved, the center will be called “SECU Plaza,” according to published reports. The tentative deal, worked through the North Carolina State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation, would provide funds toward major renovations and an expansion at Asheville Art Museum, located at the plaza.
The museum is seeking approval from the Asheville City Council to sell the naming rights. The SECU Foundation would pay $1.5 million to the museum in exchange for the designation and an accompanying sign. If approved, the “SECU Plaza” name would apply for the entirety of the museum’s current 30-year lease with the city.
