NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.–SRP Federal Credit Union is reporting it has hit a new milestone by donating more than $1 million to Aiken County public high schools through its "SRP High School Affinity Debit Card Program."
Launched in 2018, the program was designed to provide additional funding to participating CSRA high schools, the credit union said, noting each school has its own affinity debit card that generates a donation every time the card is used.
Representatives of the credit union and Aiken County gathered for an event to mark the milestone, with Aiken County School Superintendent Corey Murphy highlighting some of the ways the funds have been utilized.
Bringing ‘More Attention’
“Things as tangible as entryway beautification projects. We’re doing a lot of branding and marketing in our schools as well,” Murphy said during the event. “So, all our schools are able to take this money and turn it into something that’s going to help bring, I guess, more attention to the school system and help the kids have a better sense of belonging to the buildings. Also, our front offices. A lot of times, you come into our offices, we don’t really have a furniture budget, so we can buy furniture as well. So, this is an exciting time for us.”
According to SRP, the funds have been used in the past to cover a wide range of needs, including computers, team uniforms, and student incentives.
