WASHINGTON–People in romantic partnerships and relationships are keeping financial secrets from each other, according to a new survey.
WalletHub has released the results of its 2024 Money & Relationships Survey, which explores the prevalence of financial secrets between partners and the impact of shared accounts on relationships.
Among the findings:
- Secret Accounts: Nearly two in five Americans have a financial account that their partner doesn’t know about.
- Financial Disputes: More than one in five Americans handle money disputes in a relationship by arguing or fighting with their partner.
- Held Back by Love: 38% of people think their relationship is limiting their financial growth.
- Shared Account Issues: Nearly one in three people believe that sharing a financial account leads to more money problems rather than preventing them.
- Infidelity Detection: More than two in three people believe that sharing financial accounts can help them catch a cheating partner.
