WACO, Texas - A credit union teller and a local man have been arrested on charges they allegedly hacked into an 82-year-old woman’s account and withdrew more than $35,000.
Jessi Raean Sluder, 25, and Corleone Cleon Coleman, 20, both were jailed on second-degree felony financial abuse of an elderly individual of more than $30,000 but less than $150,000 charges, KWTX reported.
Sluder posted a $6,000 bond and was released from jail, while Coleman posted a $7,500 bond to secure his release, the report added.
According to an arrest affidavit, the elderly woman reported money missing from her Waco Federal Credit Union account on July 5.
“Credit union officials told a detective they also were investigating the incident and found that $35,600 from the woman’s account had been transferred into the account of another member, Corleone Coleman,” KWTX reported.
Drive-Through Used
“The money was then withdrawn from the drive-through or by ATM with Coleman’s debit card, according to the arrest affidavit. Some withdrawals were made from an ATM at Dallas-area Walmarts, police allege.
“Credit union officials told police they also found ‘suspicious activity from a teller named Jessi Sluder, who was going in an unlocking and/or giving out temporary passwords to unlock the woman’s online account,’” according to the affidavit cited by KWTX.
The report alleged Sluder was the teller who most-often helped Coleman at the drive-through and was seen taking money for herself and depositing money back into the woman’s account.
Video Evidence
KWTX said court documents indicate Waco FCU has video of “some of the illegal transactions done by Jessi Sluder to Corleone Coleman.”
“A detective spoke to Sluder on July 15, and she admitted giving the woman’s bank account information to Coleman and getting paid for doing so, records allege,” the KWTX report states. “She even stated she felt so bad she deposited $1,190 back into the woman’s account,” the affidavit alleges.
ATM Stolen in Ohio
Separately, in Austintown, Ohio, another credit union has been hit by thieves stealing an ATM. According to police, the ATM owned by Associated School Employees Credit Union was taken by thieves who used a stolen piece of landscaping equipment from down the road to dislodge the machine, located behind its building.
