AUSTIN, Texas—The Texas Senate State Affairs Committee has accepted the recommendation of the House and voted to keep the Texas Credit Union Department's Sunset review date in 2021.
Earlier this month the Texas House considered an amendment to HB 3123 that would have moved the date up four years, to 2017. That amendment was resoundingly defeated after credit unions contacted their House members, the Cornerstone Credit Union League reported earlier.
The league said that Sen. Jane Nelson (R-Flower Mound), author of the Senate companion bill, SB 218, asked the committee to vote out the bill favorably and recommend that the Senate approve it for adoption. The committee vote in favor was unanimous and the committee chair, Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Houston) accepted Sen. Nelson's request that the bill go to the Local and Consent calendar.
