TITUSVILLE, Pa.—Community Connect Federal Credit Union is at the center of a police investigation after thieves stole $59,500 from one of its ATMs in what authorities describe as a sophisticated “jackpotting” attack, UC Today reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning last week when Titusville Police responded to reports of a person dressed in black crouched near the credit union’s ATM. Officers arrived within seconds, but the suspects fled on foot before they could be apprehended.
Police found immediate signs that the machine had been tampered with and recovered about $1,000 in cash at the scene. Multiple K9 units were deployed to track the suspects. Investigators believe at least two individuals were involved and have identified a vehicle linked to the crime, UC Today said.
ATM “jackpotting” is a scheme in which criminals break into a machine’s internal systems and install malicious software that overrides its programming—forcing the ATM to dispense cash on command.
