Three States Pioneer Videoconference Training Initiative

SEATAC, Wash. and BOISE, Idaho—Nearly 150 credit union professionals across three states have participated in a video-based educational effort that has been launched here.

The Northwest CU Association, which represents credit unions in Washington and Oregon, and the Idaho CU League have used a new, joint videoconferencing initiative to conduct training across several disciplines.

Through video conferencing hosted in seven cities throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho, 62 marketing, business development and community outreach specialists inaugurated the expansion of the NWCUA Networking Council program in late August.  The Compliance Council’s Sept. 1 event then drew 85 participants from credit unions in all three states. Video conferencing locations included NWCUA and ICUL offices, and credit union facilities in Eugene, Ore., Spokane, Wash., and Lewiston and Pocatello, Idaho, the NWCUA reported.

“The opportunity to network ‘face-to-face’ with other credit union staff members in our region is invaluable and would not be possible without the use of this video technology,” said Kris Watkins, Compliance/Security Officer at CapEd Credit Union in Meridian, Idaho.

In addition to attending the councils, Watkins served as an onsite host for Boise council attendees.

“This successful collaboration with the NWCUA is allowing Idaho credit union professionals to connect with more of their colleagues, share experiences and create added value forums for change and talent development,” said Kathy Thomson, President/CEO of the Idaho Credit Union League.
