TORONTO—Desjardins Group and Vancouver City Savings Credit Union are among 20 companies named as “Canada's Top Family Friendly Employers for 2015.”
Now entering its 15th year, Canada's Top Family Friendly Employers is one of the longest-running competitions within the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. The special designation recognizes the employers across the country offering the most progressive and forward-thinking programs to help employees balance work and family commitments, according to Mediacorp Canada, which sponsors the annual rankings.
The competition reviews a wide range of practices at employers, including: maternity, parental and compassionate leave; daycare assistance; reproductive assistance, including fertility drugs and IVF; adoption assistance; paid personal- and earned-days-off (EDO) programs; flexible work arrangements; and even academic bursaries for employees' children.
"Our editorial team has been watching the growth in these policies each year for nearly 15 years," says Richard Yerema, managing editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project, which manages the competition. "Today, employees increasingly find themselves looking after both young children and elderly parents. The best employers are responding to these demographic changes with targeted programs that make it easier for staff to balance their work and family commitments."
