Two Men are Sentenced in Card Skimming Scheme That Stole $17,000

PENSACOLA, Fla.— Two Romanian men were sentenced to prison for stealing the card numbers of Eglin FCU members.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, Zamfir Nitu, 48, and Irinel Irimia, 42, both men were arrested and eventually sentenced after Eglin Federal Credit Union found they had installed skimming devices into two of its ATMs in April 2023.

The two men obtained approximately $17,000 with the devices and unsuccessfully attempted to withdraw another $35,000, according to prosecutors.
