Two People Killed As 2 More Vehicles Crash At Credit Unions

Self-Help FCU branch

VALLEJO, Calif.–Two people were killed when a car they were riding in crashed into a concrete wall in the parking lot of Self-Help FCU here.

Police said the vehicle had been traveling south in the lot and “for an unknown reason failed to negotiate the left turn, left the roadway and collided with the cement wall.”

The unidentified driver, 72, was transported to the hospital but later died from her injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police theorized the driver may have mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, as the vehicle hit the wall at a “high rate of speed.”

Campus USA branch

In Gainesville, Fla., meanwhile, police reported that a SUV crashed into a branch of Campus USA Credit Union after the driver experienced a medical problem. Gainesville police said the driver, a woman in her mid-60s, had a medical episode while the white SUV was in the parking lot. It accelerated rapidly into the east side of the building.

No credit union employees or members were injured, while the woman was hospitalized.

As CUToday.info has documented here, the two crashes are only the latest in numerous incidents in which credit union facilities have been struck by vehicles.
