Um, Sir, Is It? Your Mustache Appears To Be Falling Off

FITCHBURG, Mass.—A 27-year-old woman attempting to pose as her senior citizen boyfriend in order to withdraw money from his credit union account was undone in part when her fake mustache began to come off, according to police here.

Kayleigh A. Mendonca was wearing the disguise when she drove up to the window of the IC Federal Credit Union to make the $500 withdraw, presenting the boyfriend’s photo ID during the transaction, according to police. But quick-thinking staff realized she did not match the photo on the ID and told her the delivery tube at the drive-through was malfunctioning, and told her to come inside. Credit union staff, according to the Sentinel & Enterprise News, saw her fake mustache was coming off, that she was wearing gloves and a jacket that were to big for her, and that her voice had changed pitch.

Panicking, Mendonca allegedly then attempted to pick up her documents and ID items from a desk, but fumbled with those items due to the gloves, and then ran from the branch, the Sentinel & Enterprise News reported. She fled in a truck that was registered to her boyfriend and eventually turned herself in when police questioned him. Mendonca has been charged with attempting to commit a crime, forgery of documents, uttering a false check, identity fraud and assault and battery for pushing a credit union employee. Bail was set at $5,000; a March 10 court appearance has been scheduled.
