Unknown Donor is Back With More $1,000 Donations

DETROIT—An anonymous donor who dropped an envelope filled with $1,000 in cash at a Redford, Mich., office of Community Choice Credit Union is back.

But this time the donations are not at a credit union.

Five more anonymous $1,000 donations have been made recently, the Detroit Free Press reported. All the donations, including the one at CCCU, came with a cryptic message: “Know the clue. Know the who. Anonymous 1679.”

The latest recipients include the Redford Township District Library, Tail Waggers 1990—a nonprofit animal welfare organization—and the Redford Goodfellows, a non-profit charitable organization.

When CUToday.info interviewed CCCU in October, the credit union surmised that its donation resulted from a “Pay it Forward” campaign the CU ran earlier in the year.

“We were so surprised,” said Abbey Bierlein, coordinator for the Community Choice Credit Union Foundation, the CU’s charitable arm, in a previous report. “The credit union is well known for giving back to the community—and now someone has given back to the credit union.”

The $526-million CCCU is based in Farmington Hills, Mich.
