Vermont State Employees CU to Sponsor Point to Point Fundraiser

MONTPELIER, Vt.–Vermont State Employees Credit Union here will sponsor Point to Point, an event expected to attract hundreds of cyclers and runners to the state’s capital city.

This will be the first year in Montpelier for this fundraising event, which has been held in Southern Vermont since 2002 in support of the Vermont Foodbank, the credit union said.

The start and finish lines for Point to Point rides and runs, as well as the party featuring live music, family fun, food trucks, and beer from Harpoon Brewery, will be in front of the Vermont State House.

The Point to Point was created in 2002 to raise funds and awareness for the Vermont Foodbank’s mission to end the growing problem of hunger in Vermont. One in four Vermonters are not sure where their next meal is coming from and, according to the Vermont Foodbank, the majority of those people are Vermont’s most vulnerable residents: children and seniors. Over the years, this event has become the Foodbank’s largest fundraiser, bringing in well over $100,000 annually to support their efforts.

VSECU said it recognizes that the move from Southern Vermont to Montpelier represents a large shift to past participants.

Event on Statehouse Lawn

“The Point to Point is moving to Montpelier because this location will be an asset for the event; the goal is to raise money for the Vermont Foodbank,” said Simeon Chapin, community impact officer for VSECU. “By having this event on the State House lawn, more riders and runners will be able to access the location, more families will attend the party, and all of these changes will raise more money for the Vermont Foodbank.”

Registration for the 2020 Point to Point opens in February.
