WASHINGTON–Credit unions will be monitoring a number of hearings in Congress this week.
Those hearings will include, in the House Financial Services Committee:
- The Impact of the International Monetary Fund: Economic Moral Hazard, which will be heard by the Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee.
- The Annual Report of the Financial Stability Oversight Committee, to be heard from the full committee and at which Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew will give testimony.
- Legislative Proposals to Modernize Business Development and Expand Investment Opportunities, to be heard by the Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises subcommittee.
- A Global Perspective on Cyber Threats, to be heard by the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee.
President Obama’s trade package also remains before Congress and has been the subject of much debate. Last week the credit union trade groups announced they had succeeded in removing a provision in the bill that would have required credit unions to report additional 990s. CUNA’s Ryan Donovan said the group will continue to monitor the bill and any additional provisions or changes.
