ALBANY, Ore.–A credit union’s video camera has caught a would-be thief in action as he placed a skimming device on an ATM.
Police here say the man seen in the video is the suspect in as much as $20,000 in ATM fraud against members.
The man is seen in the video placing the skimming device on an ATM outside Central Willamette Credit Union on Waverly Drive SE on the morning of May 29. Police said the device was left on the ATM until that evening, capturing ATM card and PIN information throughout the day.
By Monday 40 CWCU members had reported unauthorized withdrawals totaling about $20,000, most of which occurred in the Portland, Ore. Area, but also as far away as Northern California.
The suspect remains at large.
