With Congress in Recess, DCUC Working to Ensure NDAA Remains ‘Clean’; CUs Being Urged to Meet With Reps at Home

WASHINGTON–With Congress in recess through Labor Day, credit union advocacy is largely focused on monitoring bills that have already been submitted, legislation that is in progress and meeting with representatives in their home states and districts.

Jason Stverak

Jason Stverak, chief advocacy officer with the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC), for example, said the organization continues to monitor the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to ensure that when the House and Senate return in September no provisions or amendments DCUC opposes have been added to the must-pass bill.

DCUC will be sending a letter to every office on the Hill this week to reiterate its priorities and to ensure a “clean NDAA.”

DCUC will also continue to push for other priorities, including a member business lending bill that would help veterans.

“We are also strongly encouraging our members all across the country where (representatives) are holding town halls or meet-and-greets to show up and be there to advocate on behalf of issues that are important to credit unions and,  specifically, defense-related credit unions, on behalf of active duty servicemen and women,” said Stverak.
