TAMPA, Fla.—A woman as been arrested for allegedly holding up a branch of Grow Financial Federal Credit Union here last week, tying her request for money to a bomb threat, WFLA reported.
Around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, Maria Montesino, 42, entered the GFCU office located on the 1700 block of North Oregon Avenue and demanded money from the teller, according to Tampa Police Department, WFLA said.
Montesino stated a man was outside instructing her to commit the robbery, and he was in possession of a bomb that would go off if the teller did not give her money, WFLA reported.
The CU employee gave Montesino money before she fled the scene.
According to TPD, detectives gathered evidence and quickly located Montesino at a nearby apartment complex where she was arrested, WFLA said.
Montesino is being charged with robbery of $750 or more, but less than $250,000, and making a false report of a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction—threatening to discharge destructive device, WFLA said.
No evidence was found that supported her allegation of a man being involved or armed with an explosive device, the Tampa Police Department said.
