Zeal CU To Be Part of Effort To Set Guinness World Record

DETROIT–Zeal Credit Union will be part of an effort to set an official world record later this week.

On July 18, a crew of “builders” from all over the world will be taking over the fourth floor of the Michigan Science Center in an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Chain Reaction Machine ever built.

The team will be led by Michigan State University student Steve Price, who has built similar machines for audiences everywhere including an appearance on NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

The effort is known as “Zeal Credit Union’s Incredible Science Machine” due to the support the local credit union has provided the team to make this event possible. The machine itself will take 17 builders almost two weeks to build and will be activated on July 18 at 3 p.m. It should take almost 30 minutes for the entire chain reaction machine to complete, according to organizers. The effort isn’t just about setting a world record. The builders said the project is also aimed at demonstrating actual science and having effect on STEM education in and around Detroit.
