Zeal CU’s ‘Incredible Science Machine’ Team Waiting On Guinness Book

LIVONIA, Mich.–A team sponsored by Zeal Credit Union has officially broken the American record for the most dominoes toppled in an event and is now awaiting results from the Guinness Book of World Records for the record of having the most steps in a Rube Goldberg machine.

The Zeal Credit Union Incredible Science Machine was built by a team led by Steve Price, a Michigan State University senior, to attempt a world record to build the largest ever Rube Goldberg machine, and was housed inside the Michigan Science Center in Detroit. Price plus 15 others helped to build the machine as it attempted to break the record for the world’s largest chain reaction. The event also attracted spectators and media from around the world via live-stream video. The “machine” included more than a half-million objects, including 200,000 dominoes, into a single display.

“It was a huge undertaking that helped bring the world to Detroit,” said Lisa Fawcett, vice president of marketing for Zeal Credit Union. “Everyone stepped up to help including the Michigan Science Center which provided the wonderful venue; our credit union employees who picked up and dropped off builders and families to the airport and delivered lunches; Detroit Public Television who live-streamed this record-setting event and several media outlets that provided excellent coverage.”
