CHICAGO–It’s a multi-tasking world, and you need look no further than a credit union conference to see how many people are in the audience on a personal device while a speaker is making a presentation.
Multi-tasking, many people believe, makes them more productive, even if research—and one Ted Talk—says it doesn’t.
Giving that Ted Talk is designer Paolo Cardini, who makes an argument—hold on—for “mono-tasking,” instead.
“I'm a multitasking person, and I push my students to fly through a very creative, multitasking design process. But how efficient is, really, this multitasking?,” asks Cardini.”Someone tells us the story about super-taskers, so this 2% of people who are able to control multitasking environment. But what about ourselves, and what about our reality?...I know that it could sound pretty weird to speak about mono when the number of possibilities is so huge, but I push you to consider the option of focusing on just one task, or maybe turning your digital senses totally off.”
