1 CU's Strategy For Turning 12 Days of Christmas Into 350,000

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.—Royal Credit Union here is reporting it reached more than 350,000 people here with a social media-based campaign over the holidays.

Royal CU’s “12 Days of Giving Campaign” ran Dec. 7-22 on Facebook and offered more than $1,000 in prizes. During the promotional period Royal CU reported that its Facebook followers grew by nearly 18% and now total more than 15,000. The campaign also used the hashtag #RoyalChristmas and #Royal12DaysofGiving.

During the promotion the CU’s Facebook followers were asked to like the post and comment on a specific question.

“The response to this campaign was phenomenal,” said Andrea Finn, Royal Credit Union digital marketing manager. “The responses were so heartwarming and the winners were genuinely thrilled with the prizes they won.”

Prizes ranged from cash to gift cards to one of the season’s hottest and hardest to find toys, Pie Face. Overall the campaign reached nearly 350,000 people and gained 16,800 likes, 15,700 comments and 6,200 shares, the credit union reported.

“We saw a 10.74% engagement rate, which is very exciting,” said Finn. “This campaign was new for us and we are thrilled with the results. We will definitely bring it back next year.”

According to Royal CU, one of the most active days of the campaign was on Dec. 8 when a $50 Best Buy gift card was featured as the prize. The post reached 45,600 people and gained 2,032 likes, 1,955 comments and 668 shares.

The best day of the campaign, however, came Dec. 16 when the prize was a $100 Visa Gift Card. The post reached 57,674 people and gained 2,249 likes, 2,237 comments and 1,156 shares. Followers were asked to like the post and comment how they would spend the $100.
