ST. LUCIA, W.I.–Credit unions in the Caribbean have named the winners of their annual CaribDE Awards, which recognize outstanding contributions toward Development Education. The winners, who will be recognized during the World Council of CU’s World Credit Union Conference in July in Denver, are:
- CaribDE Champion: Bob Schumacher, the retired CEO of Pacific Crest Credit Union, recognized for his contributions to the CaribDE program.
- Honorary Development Educator: H.E. Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, Jamaica's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, redognized for work done in transforming City of Kingston Credit Union, Jamaica and inspiring higher credit union performance across the Caribbean Region
Institutions being recognized for Outstanding Contributions to Caribbean Development Education are:
- St. Lucia Civil Service Credit Union, with 31 graduates of the DE program, representing 43% of volunteer and employee positions.
- COPOS Credit Union, Trinidad & Tobago, with 28 graduates representing 47% of volunteer and employee positions.
- Neal & Massy North Credit Union, Trinidad & Tobago, with 20 graduates, representing 44% of volunteer & employee positions.
- Barbados Light & Power Co-operative Credit Union, with 18 graduates, representing 60% of volunteer and employee positions.
- National Co-operative Credit Union, Dominica, with 32 graduates, representing 19% of volunteer and employee positions.
- Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League, which has hosted four CaribDE Courses and enabled 121 volunteers and employees to complete the program, representing 21% of the total graduates to date.
- CUNA Mutual Insurance Society Limited, Trinidad & Tobago, for its sponsorship and financial contributions.
