SASKATOON, Sask.–A Saskatchewan credit union is taking steps to fulfil a recommendation made by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that businesses strengthen ties with indigenous communities.
Affinity Credit Union, which made a $100,000 donation to Wanuskewin Heritage Park, has also started developing a partnership with the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre and said it will increase efforts to hire aboriginal people.
“The road to reconciliation will be long for all Canadians, but the participation of organizations like Affinity is encouraging,” said Paul Ledoux, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation’s representative on Affinity’s District 9 Council, in a statement. “As Canadians, each of us has a great deal in common, and through the reconciliation process, I hope we will be able to use that common ground to build a brighter future for everyone.”
