SYDNEY, Canada - A bylaw amendment offering Sydney Credit Union members a variety of ways to vote — including casting ballots online — has been delayed until next year’s annual general meeting.
According to the credit union, the current bylaws require members to be present at a meeting in order to cast a vote. Sydney CU’s board had been scheduled to vote on a bylaws change at its annual meeting that would have expanded voting options, but that proposal as been tabled in order to give the board more time to get feedback from members, the credit union reported.
“We have to get the document in place to govern (the bylaw amendment) and we don’t have that yet,” said Chairman Joseph Legge. “Quite a few of the credit unions in the province already have this in place so it’s a matter of looking at how it works with all the others.”
Legge said one reason online and mail ballots are being considered is that out of its 14,4501 members, an average of fewer than 110 have typically turned out for the annual general meeting.
