U.K. CU Partners With Co-operative Energy

SOUTH YORKSHORE, U.K.-- Co-operative Energy has launched a partnership with South Yorkshire Credit Union (SYCU) here through which the CU’s members will be able to switch to more competitive energy deals through the Midcounties Co-operative energy provider.

The relationship builds on one already established from the Co-operative Group’s Electrical arm, which features a showroom that displays goods. Co-operative Electrical started an initiative four years ago where, through credit unions, its makes its goods available through a loan with a lower rate of interest than rivals.

To mark the launch of the collaboration, the Co-operative Energy paid the £5 SYCU joining fee for those who brought their energy bill into the shop during the first week. Those members received money saving advice on energy efficiency measures.

The credit union also working with Co-op Energy to offer competitive prices on gas and electricity bills to staff and members. A member of the Co-operative Energy team has visited each of their branches individually to talk members through the process of finding the best energy program to suit their particular needs, address their energy concerns and highlight initiatives such as the warm Home Discount Scheme.

Co-operative Energy has also started a partnership with the Co-operative Credit Union. This will enable Co-operative Credit Union members across the UK to compare their energy bills and look to switch to a more competitive tariff via Co-operative Energy.

In November SYCU opened a new shop in Mexborough, an area of high poverty. The credit union has nine branches throughout the region and more than 27,000 members.
