Cummins Allison Reminds On Other Effects on Breaches

MT. PROSPECT, Ill.—With more than 500 data breaches in 2014 and 75 million data records potentially exposed, Cummins Allison is reminding credit unions to be prepared as consumers may begin using more cash and checks. And that, said the company, means CUs must be prepared for not just members, but retailers and small businesses, that are seeing more cash and checks.

“Investing in high-quality cash and check scanners is one of the easiest ways to positively impact branch automation,” Cummins Allison said. “With these systems in place, tasks that usually take hours can be completed in a matter of minutes.”

Another benefit: an increase in branch traffic through availability of self-service coin machines, the company reminded.

Finally, Cummins Allison is reminding CUs to start preparing for the October 2015 deadline for EMV compliance, including EMV compliant ATMs.

“These machines are already equipped with the proper hardware features, allowing FIs to make the transition to EMV software at their own pace. This capability is an advantage in the long run, providing FIs with the ability to improve their overall services without incurring unnecessarily large upgrade costs,” said Cummins Allison.
