TYSONS Va.–One runner with 500 races under her belt, two tri-athletes, and entire families were among the 100-plus runners and volunteers from PenFed Credit Union who participated in the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk benefitting Children’s Miracle Network.
“PenFed is committed to supporting the communities where we do business. We are proud to have had more than 50 volunteers and more than 50 runners at the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom,” said James Schenck, President and CEO, PenFed Credit Union. “It is inspiring to see our employees coming together with other members of the community to raise money for a cause like Children’s Miracle Network.”
PenFed said it was proud to sponsor a water stop at Mile Six of the 10-mile race where volunteers provided water and inspiration to the runners. This was PenFed’s 2nd year as a major sponsor of the event, providing a $10,000 donation and 50+ volunteers to man the water stop. In total, PenFed has donated more than $1.3 million to charitable organizations in the Greater Washington, DC area.
“Being able to stand side-by-side with my PenFed colleagues to support the runners and this amazing cause is a true honor,” said Laurie Horstmann, Vice President of IT Business Integration, PenFed Credit Union. “This is my second year organizing the volunteers for this event. My job is easy because our PenFed employees truly believe in our corporate identity as a community leader. I’m already looking forward to next year.”
