ST. PAUL, Minn.– Second Harvest Heartland, an Affinity Plus Credit Union Charity of Choice, is highlighting the credit union as a Preferred Partner due to Affinity Plus’ successful 2016 Month of Giving. That annual effort for all five of Affinity Plus’ Charities of Choice nets thousands of dollars in donations from members and staff across Minnesota.
Second Harvest thanked Affinity Plus, noting, “Because of your generosity, we are able to provide over 65,490 meals to our local neighbors. We could not do what we do without partners like you.”
Affinity Plus said its five-week Month of Giving in late 2016 ended with nearly $22,000 overall in contributions from members, staff and the public. That total included the credit union’s $1,000 weekly match to the Charity of Choice that received the most donations each week.
“I can’t say enough about our members, staff and the communities in which we have branches,” said Dave Larson, Affinity Plus President/CEO. “The weekly totals and the final tally demonstrate their generosity and community spirit.”
December 2017 will mark the fourth year in a row for the credit union’s Month of Giving.
Affinity Plus contributes to Second Harvest Heartland in other meaningful ways, too. In October, Affinity Plus staff statewide join an estimated 1,000 volunteers from about two dozen other Minnesota credit unions during Plus It Forward Day.
In 2016, and in years’ past, Affinity Plus staff have volunteered at Second Harvest Heartland to sort and box thousands of pounds of food destined for community distribution.
Along with Second Harvest and Special Olympics, Affinity Plus’ Charities of Choice include American Red Cross – Minnesota Region; Children’s Minnesota; and the Affinity Plus Foundation. All have websites with additional information about their programs and resources.
