RIVERSIDE, Calif. – As part of the annual reading celebration, Read Across America, nearly a dozen Altura Credit Union employees visited six Riverside County elementary schools to promote literacy. The national Read Across America coincides with the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.
“Our employees look forward to this event every year,” said Tina Covington, vice president, Altura Sales and Business Development. “We all love spending time with the students in their classrooms and reading to them. Reading is vital to student achievement and we are happy to play a part if motivating them to read.”
Held the first week in March, the event was created by the National Education Association nearly 20 years ago to celebrate, promote and generate enthusiasm for reading in school age children. Parents and volunteers around the country read to children of all ages at local schools, libraries and other locations as part of the event.
